Why this is the right unit for a the Pahrump Valley site

The Pahrump Valley has become one of the busiest utility-scale solar corridors in the Southwest, and every one of those projects is a textbook job for a mobile hydration station. The Rough Hat Clark County project from Candela Renewables is a roughly 400-megawatt solar and 700-megawatt battery build on more than 2,400 acres of BLM land southeast of town, projected to put up to 555 workers on open desert for a construction period measured in months. Yellow Pine Solar covers around 3,000 acres about 10 miles southeast of Pahrump, and proposals like Mosey, Nobel, and the Purple Sage Energy Center push the total workforce and acreage even higher. These are hundreds of people working raw ground with zero shade and no existing plumbing.

We have learned that the first thing a solar build needs is a water source that does not depend on a daily delivery truck finding its way to a moving work front. A Signature Series station drops onto the pad, holds 300 gallons, and gives crews four bottle-fill positions plus a rear jug-fill station for filling coolers and personal jugs. When a site outgrows a single station, we add a second unit and keep the fresh tanks topped off with our own water truck, so the work front never runs dry between phases.

The bottled-water math on these jobs is staggering. A 50-worker crew at six bottles a day burns 300 bottles daily and more than 60,000 across a 200-day project. Scale that to a 400 or 555-worker solar build over an 18-month construction period and you are looking at well over a million single-use bottles, plus all the cost of buying them, trucking them in over a mountain pass, icing them down, and hauling the empty plastic back out. There is a local twist here too. Water is the flashpoint of nearly every solar fight in this valley, because Basin 162 is one of the most over-appropriated groundwater basins in Nevada. This is a logistics decision before it’s a green one

Sustainability is the easy part of the pitch. Roughly 60 million plastic bottles get thrown out daily in this country, only about a third are ever recycled, and one bottle can sit in a landfill for centuries. Worth reporting, sure. But the Pahrump project managers who actually switch usually do it to kill the daily hassle, not to pad a sustainability slide. A shared trailer means no recurring bottle order, no cooler going warm before first break, no wall of empties baking by the job-trailer. The super runs the build, not the water program.

Because our own potable tankers cover the refills, the supply scales with the job rather than fighting it. Double the crew for a big pour and they still can’t outdrink the plan. And the tankers just swing back and bring the level up.

What Nevada and Federal Rules Ask of Pahrump Employers

Nevada runs its own approved workplace-safety program under Nevada OSHA, part of the state Division of Industrial Relations, and it is required to be at least as effective as the federal program. In 2024 Nevada adopted its own heat-illness regulation, R131-24AP, and full enforcement began on April 29, 2025. It requires employers with at least 10 workers to complete a one-time written job hazard analysis for heat and to address drinking water, rest, acclimatization, and emergency response. In the first stretch of enforcement, construction was among the top three most-inspected industries statewide.

That state rule sits on top of long-standing federal OSHA guidance. The federal Water, Rest, Shade approach tells employers to provide cool drinking water, encourage frequent drinks, give workers shaded or cooled rest breaks, and let new or returning workers acclimatize, since a large share of heat fatalities happen in a worker’s first days on the job. Federal OSHA also proposed a national Heat Injury and Illness Prevention rule that would formalize these steps across construction, agriculture, and general industry, so getting ahead of it now is simply good planning.

Here is where we fit. A few things staging water around Pahrump has taught us

A lot of the Pahrump Valley jobs have shaped how we run the next one. A few that stuck with us:

Solar superintendent, Pahrump Valley array. A superintendent on a large valley solar build was losing crew time to daily bottled-water runs over Mountain Springs summit and burning through pallets of plastic. We staged two Signature Series stations along the work front and kept the tanks topped off with our own water truck. The crew stopped leaving the site for water, the plastic waste disappeared, and the safety manager finally had a documentable cold-water source to point an inspector to.

Events coordinator, Petrack Park festival. A fall festival organizer was worried about a hot afternoon crowd and the sea of empty bottles that piled up every year. We set an ADA-accessible station near the main stage with multiple fill points. Attendees refilled instead of buying and tossing, the lines stayed short even at peak, and the park came out the other side of a four-day event with a fraction of the usual plastic to clean up.

Mobile Hydration Stations for Ranches, Orchards, and Remote Desert Work

Pahrump earned its name from the Southern Paiute words for water rock, a nod to the artesian springs that once let ranchers farm this valley. That heritage still shows up in alfalfa and hay ground, the pistachio orchards out along North Blagg Road that came into harvest in the 2010s, and the wine grapes that feed the local wineries. Harvest crews, orchard hands, and ranch workers all put in long outdoor days in the same heat that drives the rest of this page, and they are often working far from any tap.

Remote work in southern Nye County goes well beyond farming. Front Sight straddles more than 500 desert acres near the county line, where instructors and students spend full days on outdoor ranges. Land crews, surveyors, fence and pipeline contractors, and utility teams range across a valley the size of a small county, and the approaches to the Nevada National Security Site and the Test and Training Range pull workers even deeper into the desert. On sites like these, on-site water is not a convenience, it is the safety plan.

Pahrump sits in the Mojave Desert at about 2,697 feet, and its summers are hot and dry. A typical June-through-August day runs around 100 degrees, 110 is not unusual, and the all-time record high is 117. Because the valley sits at a similar elevation to Las Vegas, its summer highs run only a few degrees cooler than the city, and its record highs are comparable. Death Valley, about 60 miles west, is the most extreme heat environment on Earth, a constant reminder of what this climate does to the body.

The desert throws a curveball that catches crews off guard: a huge daily temperature swing, often 30 degrees and sometimes 40 between the pre-dawn low and the afternoon high. A crew that feels fine at a comfortable 6 a.m. start is working in triple digits by early afternoon, and that fast ramp is exactly when heat illness sneaks up on workers who have fallen behind on fluids. Getting ahead of the heat, not chasing it, is the whole game.

That is why chilled water matters so much here. Cases of bottled water left in 110-degree sun turn warm fast, and warm water is water crews will not drink in the volume they need.   • How many people?  Fifteen framers on a tract and a four-thousand-head concert are not the same problem. Your peak headcount, or gate count, drives how many trailers we stage and how aggressively the tankers cycle.
  • How long?  Two days at a park tournament, three weeks of footings, nine months on a master-planned build, each wants its own rhythm. Short jobs usually lean on staged reserve; long ones ride a standing tanker schedule.

Bottled water reads as the budget choice on a purchase order. Its actual price tag is buried somewhere else, in handling hours, staging footprint, water that warms up, and trash piling up afterward, and on a hot inland lot each of those costs more than it would by the coast.

A single Signature Series station has four bottle-fill positions plus a rear jug-fill station, and it holds 300 gallons of fresh water. That covers a typical crew comfortably. For large solar builds with hundreds of workers, we place multiple stations along the work front and keep the tanks topped off with our own water truck so the site never runs dry.

Do you serve sites with no power or no plumbing?

The station needs no existing plumbing, and it runs off a standard power drop, either dedicated 20-amp circuits or a single 50-amp connection. If a remote pad has no power at all, we will talk through your setup and options so you still get cold, filtered water where the crew is working.

Do you handle events at Petrack Park and the local wineries?

Absolutely. We set up for the Fall Festival, the Balloon Festival, winery events like the Grape Stomp, weddings, concerts, and private gatherings. An ADA-accessible station with multiple fill points keeps a hot-afternoon crowd comfortable and cuts the single-use plastic that piles up at a multi-day event. For indoor or covered venues, the roll-in Legacy Series fits through standard doorways.

Federal OSHA, Nevada’s Heat Rule, and Jobsite Drinking Water in Nye County
